I am thrilled to report that the spray paint jobs on all of the hinges and door knobs has held up great even in high use areas. Sometimes sticking paint can be resolved by tightening or adjusting the hinges. You ll probably have to fill deep dents twice to compensate for shrinkage. Then turn the hinges over if you re painting both sides and spray the other side.

To ensure no fingerprints are left in the paint allow the hardware to dry for 24 hours. Hinge adjustments thick paint may make a door too big for the frame and as a result the paint will stick to the frame when the door is closed. Not sure what it means to dry brush. After the primer has thoroughly dried spray hardware with metallic paint.

Fill the pot halfway with water and set it on the stove on high heat. Slice through paint buildup around hinges and latches. After it is dry reinstall the hardware on the door. Allow two hours of dry time between each coat.

Avoid putting metal in contact with your pretty new door knobs. The door may stick tight enough to warrant yanking to open it or shoving to securely close it. Spray hardware with metallic primer according to manufacturer s directions. Spray the hinges again with metal enamel.

Let the primer dry for 30 minutes to an hour. Make sure to wax the hinges also using a rag that already has some residual wax on it from when the cabinet or furniture piece was waxed. Lift the hinges out with tongs and wear gloves as you scrape and buff off all the paint. Put on a respirator and spray a coat of metal primer on all the hinges using an aerosol can.

Of course that is quite easy to fix with paint so we re not worried. You do not want the paint to be applied thick or have it caking in the crevices of the hinge because that is when it will chip off once dry. Apply two coats of oil based spray paint to the metal hinges in the same manner as you did the primer.
